Oschadbank finally wins "intellectual" litigation on protection of rights to SBERBANK trademark

On August 19, 2021, the Supreme Court of Ukraine has made a final decision in a high-profile case initiated in 2016 by Oschadbank. The decision has put an end to its long-standing litigation against PJSC Sberbank of Russia and JSC Sberbank to protect the rights to SBERBANK trademark in Ukraine.

The case has been considered by the courts of first and appellate instances for more than five years with the number of the case files nearing thirty volumes. The considerable duration of the case and its scope are due to the complexity of the case and active opposition of JSC Sberbank which is currently obliged to cease the illegal use of the mentioned trademark in Ukraine.

Celebrating its victory, Oschadbank assures that this important court decision will not affect the rights and obligations of the Ukrainian customers of the opponent bank. At the same time, the important decision of the Supreme Court allows Sberbank to better protect the rights and interests of its own customers.
