Oschadbank Has Returned Its Funds and Assets from Hungary

Today, on May 6, 2026, Oschadbank returned its funds and valuables amounting to USD 40 million, EUR 35 million  and 9 kg of the banking  gold illegally seized in Hungary.

The funds and valuables are being returned in full; the integrity and authenticity of the packaging have been verified by the representatives of Oschadbank.

Yurii Katsion, the Chairman of the Management Board of Oschadbank, who led the bank’s team in Hungary, emphasized: “The illegal detention of the cash-in-transit couriers team and the seizure of funds and valuables belonging to the Ukrainian state bank by Hungary for two months violated numerous international rules and regulations of intergovernmental cooperation. We would like to thank Hungary for its constructive stance. The return of funds took place in accordance with standard European practices of international cooperation. We are grateful to the President of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine  and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for their support in protecting the legitimate interests of the state bank.”

Reminder:

  • on March 5, 2026, two Oschadbank cash-in-transit vehicles were illegally detained in Hungary, along with a team of cash-in-transit couriers who were transporting USD 40 million, EUR 35 million, and 9 kg of the banking gold from Vienna to Kyiv;
  • transportation was carried out under the international agreement between Oschadbank and Raiffeisen Bank Austria; the cargo was registered in accordance with the international transportation rules and applicable European customs procedures;
  • the cash-in-transit vehicles were transporting funds and bank metals belonging to the state Oschadbank and designated for cash circulation in Ukraine;
  • on March 6, seven employees of Oschadbank’s cash-in-transit service, who had been unlawfully detained by Hungarian law enforcement agencies, returned to Ukraine;
  • on March 12, two cash-in-transit vehicles were returned to Oschadbank.
