According to the National Bank of Ukraine, under the memorandum between leading banks on supporting energy projects, 434 MW of installed capacity of energy storage systems (BESS) was financed from June 2024 to November 1, 2025.
"Oschadbank is a leader in financing BESS: half of the total volume lent by banks is Oschadbank projects, whose total resources have already exceeded 220 MW," said Yevhen Miachyn, director of the corporate business support and development department at Oschadbank, during a recent speech at the Energy Club forum.
“In 2025, energy storage projects account for more than 60% of all loan agreements concluded in the energy sector among Oschadbank's corporate business clients. The rest are solar power plant projects combined with BESS and wind power plants,” said Yevhen Miachyn.
According to him, as part of financing energy storage projects, Oschadbank signed its first loan agreement in 2025 for the construction of a BESS that will operate in the ancillary services market for the KNESS company. The bank also led a consortium agreement to create one of the largest energy storage systems in Eastern Europe for DTEK. Today, along with projects for the ancillary services market, Oschadbank is already considering projects that will operate in the electricity arbitration market.
"Next year, we expect the trend in BESS construction to continue. We are considering energy projects with a resource of more than 300 MW of installed capacity, of which BESS accounts for the same 60% as in 2025. This indicates unprecedented demand: for comparison, in 2024, Oschadbank financed energy storage installations with a capacity of only 0.3 MW. This growth confirms that investment in BESS is key to strengthening Ukraine's energy independence," emphasized the director of the corporate business support and development department at Oschadbank.
